It's time for the Select Michigan™ September Capitol Lawn Farmers Market! The Michigan Department of Agriculture's (MDA) Select Michigan™ Program is seeking Michigan growers and companies to showcase their products during the last Select Michigan Farmers Market on the Capitol lawn for 2009. This event will be held Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the east lawn as part of the Select Michigan Day Celebration. "This is an immensely popular event and we have limited vendor space, so early registration is essential to make sure your company is included in the Select Michigan celebration," said Christine Lietzau, MDA's Select Michigan Program Manager. "The annual Select Michigan Farmers Markets on the capitol lawn are held to increase consumer awareness of Michigan food and agriculture products." This market is sponsored by MDA, Michigan Food & Farming Systems (MIFFS) and Food Bank Council of Michigan with funding from the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, as well as additional support from the Michigan Farmers Market Association. Priority for vendor space will be given to Michigan specialty crop growers and companies. There will also be several additional booth spaces available for non-profit organizations who promote the benefits of eating and buying local. The deadline for reserving booth space is Monday, August 24, 2009.
